HOORAY! THE FIERY CROSS IS AVAILABLE UNABRIDGED ON AUDIBLE.COM!

Many, many thanks to the kind folks at Recorded Books and Audible.com, who rushed to put together a contract, and who pushed THE FIERY CROSS to the front of the 170-book queue waiting to be uploaded to Audible.com!

  1. So happy to see that the Fiery Cross is available!!!!! Cant wait to download it…Will they be doing A Breath of Snow and Ashes?? I have bought both on CDs and loaded them. Will get this now sweet!!!!!!

    • Dear Kimberly–

They’ve had A BREATH OF SNOW AND ASHES for the last six months or so.

      –Diana

      • A Breath of snow and ashes is still abridged in audible.com :( . But VERY HAPPY to here that fiery cross is now Unabridged. Thank You for such great novels. Is Davina Porter still the Narrater? She has done such a great job and brought your story to life for me. Thank you :)

        • Dear Adelaide–

Check again. They may still _have_ the abridged version (temporarily), but _should_ also have the UNabridged.

          –Diana

          • A related question about Davina Porter… Does the departure of Recorded Books from the consumer market affect the contractual arrangements that they have with Davina Porter to narrate books for them? Specifically, is there still hope that she will be able to do the narration on MOHB when you have it ready to be recorded? She certainly brings your books to life, and it’s impossible to imagine going to another reader at this stage in the series! Love your stories–and love Davina Porter’s narration! I’ll soon start working my way through the entire audiobook series for the fourth time! No other series comes close. Thank you!!

          • Dear Patricia—

I certainly hope so, too! I’ll ask Recorded Books about it.

            –Diana

        • Both versions of a Breath of Snow and Ashes are available on Audible.com!

      • Please could you tell me when it will be available in the uk?

        • Dear Jules–

No, I’m afraid I don’t know that. I’ll ask the Recorded Books people, though.

          –Diana

          • Hi Diana,

A Breathe of Snow and Ashes Unabridged is still not available on Audible in the UK, although it shows on the US site. Please could you ask Recorded Books and let us know when we can expect it ? I have owned An Echo in the Bone for some time and was excited to hear The Fiery Cross was out. But A Breathe of Snow and Ashes has still failed to appear on Audible in the UK….

            Thanks,

            Mick

          • Dear Mick–

The license for the abridged version of A Breath of Snow and Ashes expires in 2014. At that point, we can (thank GOD) chop off all sales of the atrocious abridgement and can sell the UNabridged version anywhere. In the meantime, we’re struggling to make what accommodations we can to get the Unabridged version made available, as widely as we can. (We did manage to get it made available in the US, and–oddly enough–in South Africa (or so I’m told).) Don’t know about the UK, but I’ll ask and see what I can find out.

            –Diana

    • Audible still saying that Fiery Cross not available in Australia?

    • How brilliant that The Fiery Cross is coming to Audible unabridged – I’ve emailed to ask them for this several times! I’ve only been able to get it unabridged on cassettes: takes up half a suitcase when I need to take it anywhere!

Hope this isn’t restricted to the USA: just seen your answer to Kimberly and I’ve only seen the abridged version of A Breath of Snow and Ashes in their UK listings.

This is turning into a wonderful day – all this and a date for the Scottish Prisoner too!

      • I have had the abridged version for a long time. I Am soooo glad to have the unabridged version now ;) Isn’t Diana A wonderful writer? :) I don’t even remember how many times I have read all the outlander books and listened to them over and over too. : )

    • Fiery Cross unabridged on audible.de, too, please!

Haven’t read through all of the comments but would like to ask all of you to push that the unabridged versions will also be made available at audible.DE

audible.com refuses to sell audiobooks to european listeners because of copyright constrictions.

    • The Fiery Cross (Unabridged)Audio

Its a shame that its not available in the UK. The version available (which I purchased, doh) is by a narator called Geraldine James. It’s not a patch on Davina and only 8 hours 42mins instead of over 50!! Thank you Karen Henry for your comments on its US availability. is it on sale in Austrailia I wonder? I am visiting there in April…

    • Trying to obtain an unabridged ABOSAA (in UK) by DP sooo hard to get hold of….

  2. Have already added it to my wishlist, so happy I can now have the whole set on my iPod! Must be a lot of Gabaldon fans out there for them to push it ahead of that many other books!

  3. Going to Audible.com right now to get it!! Thanks for making this happen so fast. My collection is now complete!

  4. That’s so awesome! I asked Audible if they had the unabridged version after accidentally listening to the abridged version in September. I couldn’t wait for my request to be resolved so I borrowed the book through inter-library loan and loaded the 46 disks into my computer so I could listen to the whole book. It was worth it! Thank you for your writing.

    • I just did the same thing with my library… borrowed the 47 discs of Fiery Cross, downloaded them to my computer and then put them on my ipod which, because of its size and already nearly filled capacity, would only hold three discs at a time (rather than than the full version of the book form that I normally download from audible). The library method may be cheaper (free) but I have to say not nearly as convenient!

Having said all that, this book was fantastic. Davina Porter is an amazing narrator… I have tried to describe to my friends why I enjoy these books so much. The excellent writing, cross genre content, and seeming attention to accuracy are all very good reasons. Davina Porter brings them to life, in the same way that a well written novel or play is brought to life on stage and screen. I drive a lot for my job and I find myself sitting in the car once parked for long periods of time (don’t tell my boss), just listening to the story! I look forward to doing mindless tasks like ironing, mowing the lawn, shoveling snow, etc. because I pop on my ipod and listen to the adventures of Jamie, Claire, Brianna, and Roger.

      Thank you Diana Gaboldon!

      • I also borrowed the CDs form my local library and uploaded them into my iTunes.
I only regret that Voyager does not come in the unabridged version, at least not at my library or libraries in NY state.

I too am a huge fan of the Outlanders/Lord John series. Presently I am reading/listening to “A Breath of Snow and Ashes”. I like to read and listen to the CDs along so when I encounter one of the gaelic words I know how they are pronounced.

Since book 7 “An Echo in the Bone” is leaving us hanging, I am planning on waiting to read it until book 8 is being relesed. (If I can take it!)

I recently finished “The Scottish Prisoner” (Reading and Listening). As all the other books, I absolutely love this one, as well. I wanted to read slow to make it last but it just didn’t work out that way.

  5. I can’t believe my luck! I’ve been re-listening to The Outlander series and just finished Drums yesterday. I checked Audible and voila The Fiery Cross was there. I love to listen to audiobooks on my IPod when I run – us moms have to multi-task! Does anyone know if The Scottish Prisoner will be available on Audible with the release of the book?

  6. I joined Audible just to get the Outlander books(because of course having the actual books and on my Kindle wasn’t enough.) I have been checking several times a day for months and I got it right away. Thanks to everyone who made it happen!

  7. I downloaded it the day it was posted. I’m glad to finally have all seven audio books to compliment the books themselves. :)

  8. As one who (mistakenly) bought the abridged copy on audible.com, yay! I would never, never, never read an abridged version of any of Diana’s books. They take out all the good parts!

  9. So happy that The Fiery Cross is available unabridged. I wouldn’t get the audio of A Breath of Snow and Ashes until I could listen to The Fiery Cross unabridged.

  10. I am SO excited that they finally did this. I have listened to them all and found it so weird that this one was left out! I am downloading as we speak!

  11. Booya! Already got in and have spent the day listening to it. What a sweet reward for the waiting. :) Now I’m just crossing my fingers and hoping that Scottish Prisoner is immediately available on audio after its release in hardback.

  12. Oh sweet! I am so excited and glad to hear this! My audio collection can now be completed. :o )

  13. Yesssss! Can’t wait to download it!

  14. Such good news! For audible.com members… Strangely, it isn’t available on audible.co.uk! Any idea when it will be?

  15. Hello fellow Gabaldon devotees!

I am seeking help/advice particularly from tech clever Australian fans.

I am desperate to purchase an electronic version of the ‘Scottish Prisoner’ for my Ipad2 Kindle app.

Despite my best efforts I don’t seem to be able to trick any of the American e-distributors into selling me ‘Scottish Prisoner’.

I have purchased electronic versions of the entire ‘Outlander’ series through Amazon.UK but Amazon.UK doesn’t have pre-release orders for ‘Scottish Prisoner’.

Any advice would be most appreciated.

With thanks for your consideration of my email and warmest regards
    Janet

    • Hi, Janet!
I have pre-ordered it through Amazon.com, from Spain, no difference with the other Gabaldon’s books.
I first bought ruede books thanks to tour hints. I hope you can get the Scottish Prisioner soon.
      Regards, Angela

      • Hello Angela,
Thank you very much for responding. I am glad that you have been able to pre-order ‘The Scottish Prisoner’. I really appreciate your empathy and concern.
I am afraid that I tried again, and amazon just keeps coming up with “Product Not Currently Available”.
I guess that I will just have to be patient and wait for my paper copies to arrive from the ‘Poisoned Pen’ in Arizona.
Warmest regards from the other side of the world
        Janet : )

  16. I thought I would preorder The Scottish Prisoner for my Kindle…
Can’t. “no pricing info”. Probably because I’m in Australia, distant land of the oft- ignored Kindle customer (you wouldn’t believe how many titles are unavailable to Australia).

Thought I’d finally be able to get The Fiery Cross unabridged from Audible…
    Can’t do that either.
    Hugely disappointed.

If your publishers are happy for you to tour Australia, why not have not just your print books, but all audio and digital editions available to Australian customers as well? Since August 2011 they’ve finally got on Kindle for us, still not all on Audible, (if you’re in Australia).. And we speak English, so no translation issues. Can’t your agent or publishers solve this?

I’ve had a print copy of TSP preordered since May, just in case you wonder. To add to my complete collection in hardback.

Just an accessibility note of another kind: the very low contrast of black type on dark teal background is really hard to read. I find this on multiple computers looking at your website, so it doesn’t seem to be just one computer’s settings.

    • Hello Ruth,
I purchased audio CD’s off ebay in the States and the U.K and transferred them to my Iphone device. You need to keep a constant eye on ebay, as the option to purchase audio doesn’t come up often. You can contact me personally on janet.f@optusnet.com.au if you would like more info. I opened an Amazon.com.UK account to purchase most of the ‘Outlander’ series in e-book format.
I do share your frustration in not being able to pre-order an e-version ‘Scottish Prisoner’ here in Australia.
      Cheers from Janet in Oz

      • Thank you, Janet. Appreciate your time and suggested solutions (although uploading dozens of CDs….not fun, when compared to a couple of audio files, is it?). Cheers.

  17. Hi, dears!
I have a big question about ‘The custom of the army’ (maybe this is not the exact place to set this question! My apologies if it is a bit bothersome, I’m quite new here).
    My questions are a few:
Do you plan to publish tris novella by itself? If yes, when?
I’ve looked for ‘Warriors’ through Amazon.com, but it seems that they don’t have an electronic (kindle) version of the boom yet, is there any way to push Amazon to release the e- book soon?
if you know, pelase, tell me.
    Than you!!

    • Hi Angela!

Diana has said that she would like to (at some point) collect the short stories into a collection (or 2) and/or make them available individually as ebooks. I checked Amazon (US) and Warriors is available for Kindle at $14.99. If you are using the UK site, there is a small link under the picture of the cover that says “I’d like to read this book on Kindle”. I believe Amazon then informs the publisher that there are requests for this book in ebook format. Good luck!

  18. Hey..

I agree with one of the posts here that I hope Davina Porter is doing the narration. She did an absolutely fantastic job bringing the personalities of the characters to life–especially Claire and Jamie..

  19. Another fan here who is disappointed that the UK Audible website still doesn’t have the Fiery Cross in unabridged version. Hope you can find out something soon!

I am lucky – I have the CDs of it and have transferred them to my iPod but it would be so much nicer to have it in 4 or 5 parts instead of this booming voice saying “this ends Disc (whatever the number) and then on to the next disc.

Same with ABOSAA – only the abridged version available on the UK version of Audible. Any chance you can investigate that as well? it seems bizarre that the US site can have it but not the UK site.

  20. E-Book – ‘The Scottish Prisoner’

To all the Aussie devotees out there,

I should advise that I have had responses from both Amazon.com and ITunes, who politely and regretfully state that ‘The Scottish Prisoner’ will not be available as an e-book in Australia due to publishing considerations.

I write to save other Aussies the hours of effort in trying and failing to obtain e-versions of some of Diana’s books.

I even tried to open an Amazon.US account using my husband’s computer and email address but the system recognized the Australian ISP and blocked me.

I have learnt that the world of international publishing is an absolute minefield. One more reason to admire our hero Diana with having to deal with all the nuances of publishing, editing, etc whilst simultaneous juggling husband, family and being a creative genius.

Don’t know how you do it! We appreciate your efforts all the more! Wishing you energy and inspiration as you weave ‘Written in my own Hearts Blood’ for us.

Warmest regards from sunny Brisbane, Australia
    Janet

  21. Guten Tag,
habe soeben ” Echo der Hoffnung” gelesen. Vielen Dank für die spannende Unterhaltung. Zum Glück ist noch kein Ende abzusehen. Ich freue mich auf mehr.
    Herzliche Grüße aus Rostock

    • Hallo,

      Viele Gruesse aud New York

  22. Hooray!

I have been sending them emails for a while now and also looking for it in the search every time I go on Audible. They are propbably tired of hearing from me. I have the books downloaded on my ipod and re-listen to them frequently. They are the best knitting companion ever!

    Best,
    Patricia

  23. I have already downloaded the audio book! I would also like to purchase the CDs. Any idea when those will be available in the Unabridged version? Also, do you know when Drums of Autumn Unabridged CDs will be available?

  24. Hi,

I was so excited to read that The Fiery Cross and a Breath of Snow and Ashes was available to download in unabridged format………..but it would seem those of us in New Zealand are not allowed it! Can anyone explain why it isn’t available here, and what we might have to do to get hold of them? I love listening while I am working, it makes the time fly by.

Yours from the very bottom of the South Island of New Zealand,

    Shelli

  25. Downloaded FC Friday and I wonder how they can call the old version abridged. 47 hours they took out that is not abridged that is butchered.

These books have ruined me. Every other book I read written by a different author is just too darn short. Most can be read in a day. Leaves one thinking ‘where’s the beef”
Regardless, I must thank both you and Dr. Who.
    More real loooong stories please.

  26. I had a character question and am not sure where to ask it…
Is Rab MacNab (Nessie’s husband in the Lord John books) the same Rab MacNab that was a stable boy to Jamie’s family back in Scotland in Outlander?

  27. So glad The Fiery Cross is finally available on Audible. I was one of the people who called and complained/begged for it to be available!!! Please tell me the newest book “The Scottish Prisoner” will be available on Audible when it is released 11/29. It does not say anywhere on their website if it is coming soon!

    • Now after looking at your website more…I’m really confused. Is “The Scottish Prisoner” the 8th book in the Outlander series? (I just finished “An Echo in the Bone”) Or is it the next book in the Lord John series?

      • Dear Elizabeth–

THE SCOTTISH PRISONER is a hybrid novel–something between the usual OUTLANDER “Big” books and the Lord John novels. It’s set in 1760, and is an adventure/crime/historical novel featuring Jamie Fraser and Lord John Grey in equal measure. (But it’s not the sequel to AN ECHO IN THE BONE; that’s WRITTEN IN MY OWN HEART’S BLOOD (aka “Moby”), which I hope to finish by the end of 2012.)

        –Diana

        • As soon as I finished AN ECHO IN THE BONE I started searching for the next book.. I found a site that stated the end of 2012. I was like NOoooooooooooooo lol I LOVE Your books. I read them over and over and… :)
You are a treasure. Thank You
          Karen

  28. Yay!! And now I head over to Audible to renew my membership. I quit in a huff when all that was left to download were the abridged versions. ;)

  29. Awesome!! I have only listened to your books on Audible as I don’t have time to read fiction. I started with Echo and thought that it was so amazing I started the series from the beginning. I even downloaded all the lord john ‘s too, and listened to them in the recommended sequence. I am so so so happy that Fiery Cross is not available unabridged (I kinda think they did it just for me) because I am on the last part of Drums of Autum!!! I was so dreading having to by the book or wait!

Okay, they need to start working on A Breath of Snow and Ashes! (if they haven’t already) I won’t download another book if they don’t!

  30. You can get it on iTunes too :^ )

  31. I, too, am very glad that FC is finally available on Audible. Like others have posted, I joined Audible just to get this series and now it can finally be complete :) I am downloading as we speak!!

  32. hi is this only available to download in USA I can’t find it on uk audible?

  33. I haave been so enjoying the Lord John books available on audio book.. though Brotherhood of the Blade has me quite shattered. I am hoping and praying that The Scottish Prisoner will either be on audio or be text to speech enabled on Kindle. But do tell me.. whatever happened to the lock of Perseverance hair?

Nan.. met you in San Diego at the gay characters panel

    • Dear Nan–

      That panel was hilarious! {g}

Yes, THE SCOTTISH PRISONER will be out as a Recorded Books audiobook, simultaneously with the print version (so far as I know; will check). It’s also definitely available for Kindle, and personally, I don’t know why it wouldn’t be text-enabled, but will check that too.

I _love_ Jeff Woodman’s reading on the Lord John books! THE SCOTTISH PRISONER will have Jeff, but will also have another actor named Rick Holmes, reading the scenes from Jamie’s point of view. Should be interesting!

      –Diana

      • Hello Diana,
Does Rick Holmes have a Scottish accent?
Perhaps if he does then I will be able to ‘get past’ my aversion to very British Lord John not sounding very British.
        With kindest regards
        Janet

      • Dear Diana,

I really loved both Jeff Woodman and Rick Holmes reading.

I absolutely loved “The Scottish Prisoner”. I just finished it this morning. I wanted to make it last but I just had to read on.

Lord John is really growing on me.

        NouNou

  34. Diana, that’s wonderful – BUT just for your American readers/listeners/customers. It still is NOT available at Audible UK and therefore for the European market. I just checked their website and they still just got the (horrably) abridged versions of Fiery Cross and A Breath of Snow and Ashes. I’ve been trying for months now to get hold of the unabridged versions, to no avail so far. The answer from the UK branch being “we would consider…” and even more frustrating from the US “whatever you’d try, not for the Europeans”.

Don’t you think it is rather unfair to your European Outlander fans? I know we are a minority, but addicts and customers as well… Any help from your side will be very much appreciated.

    Regards,
    Lotte

    • Dear Lotte–

I’m going to be having dinner with some higher-ups from Recorded Books later this month, so will certainly ask them about this.

      –Diana

      • Diana, thank you very much in advance! That sounds like a very good opporuity to raise the subject. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and I’m wishing you every success – in my own interest.

        Regards,
        Lotte

  35. Ms. Gabaldon,
I was introduced to your writings (quite by accident ) during an enemy attack while in Iraq (now in Afghanistan) … I found your writings to be very addictive and have attempted to read all the Outlander series, although not in order , as it is difficult in my situation to come by the books and then carry them throughout the theatere of operations. I have very limited use of the computer andhave no way to download your books—But I was wondering if you and or your publishers had any of your books on the PLAYAWAY audio books, as these can be found at our recreational facilities and I might be able to get the series through them…….Thank you for helping me to “escape” ….Looking forward to the next one !

    Indebted,
    K-II

    • Dear K-II –

      Many thanks for your service! And I’m really pleased that the books could be a distraction for you in trying circumstances. {smile}

I don’t _think_ the books are presently available on Playaway audio, but let me ask the people who produce the audiobooks–maybe something can be done there, if they aren’t presently available.

      –Diana

    • K-II
On this Veterans day, please allow me to “Thank You” for your service, we are Indebted to YOU! For all the mothers out there that think of you always…we are also here thinking of you, and hoping and praying for your safe return…home.
Many hours have been spent in “escape” with our friends Jaime and Claire, by myself and many others…I hope that Diana will be able to make them available to you.
      Thinking of you all…
      Iseabail

  36. Where can I buy your book entitled “Book Eight”?

    • Dear Nia–

Pretty much anywhere, I expect–after I finish writing it. {g} It has a title, btw–look for the blogpost that says, “Book Eight Has a Title”? WIth luck, I’ll finish WRITTEN IN MY OWN HEART’S BLOOD (the title for Book Eight) by the end of 2012.

      –Diana

  37. Thank Goodness!!!
I started this series on 10/11/2008 and have refused to go out of order or listen to the abridged version.

It was just last month that I gave in and downloaded the Kindle version of the book thinking between work and college I’d get through it.

Ahh sweeping and doing dishes will be so much nicer.

  38. I just finished my second reading of the series last night. I can’t believe all of the details I missed the first time! The stories are so complex that it is hard to absorb everything in one reading.
I didn’t get how likeable Willie had become as he grows into a man (on the first reading). Sort of like Lord John–the character delvelopment is subtle but steady. The characters are not perfect, but they grow on you.
I imagine as an author that this is very difficult to do.

PS I wish that all the non-US readers could send me their mp3 players so that I could download the books you want, but unfortunately, Audible.com has a limit on the number of players that can be active at any time.

    • Lovely Karen,

You are so sweet. It is nice to get some sympathy/empathy.

Hopefully Diana’s meetings with the ‘upper echelons’ of the publishers representing her will bring some results for us not in the U.S.

I just hate to think of the income Diana might be missing as a consequence of devotee’s doing ‘whatever it takes’ to obtain audio versions, when they would be only too happy to pay for the privilege.

With warmest regards and appreciation for your thoughtfulness.

    • Hi Karen, what a lovely idea, but unfortunately not possible. Might save you a lot of work, though. Thank you for thinking of us unfortunate ones, who are not (yet) able to get the unabridged versions. We hope for the best, i.e.Diana being successful.

  39. I am excited to know the books are available in an audio format. I have all the books and want to reread them but now have a vision problem and it is difficult to read the small print. I am thinking about getting an ipod so I can download the books and re “read” them. Can someone suggest what type and size (?GBs) too get? I’d like to have all the books together on 1 device. Are they downloaded to your computer and then you transfer thm to the ipod? Don’t laugh, but I really don’t know ANYthing abbout ipods – I’m not into music so I never looked into them.
    TIA for any info.
    Mary Jo

    • Mary Jo, I think you will love having an ipod. When I first got mine (nano 4th generation, 8gb), it was with the intent of listening to music while working out. Well, once I discovered I could listen to books on it, I stopped listening to the music altogether (and, well, the working out didn’t last long either). You first of all have to get iTunes loaded onto your computer. Anything you want to put on your ipod must go in iTunes first. I found it to be fairly simple uploading audio cd’s to my iTunes, and once that was done it is really easy putting it on your ipod. I currently have Outlander on my ipod…it’s the only book in the series I do have on audio, although I plan to get a membership to audible.com soon so I can collect the whole series. Since I just have the one book, I’m not sure how many of the books I could get on my 8gb ipod. I do know Outlander is the shortest of the books (28 discs). Because of the size of the files, I’m certain there is no way I could get all books on my device, but it is an easy job to hook my ipod to the computer, access iTunes, and change books out. I do know there is a 16gb ipod… if you want to get as much on your ipod as you can at one time, I would suggest starting there. Good luck!

      • Thanks for the help Barbie. I really DO appreciate it. With Christmas coming I may just ak Santa for a nice one. :o )
        Mary Jo

      • Dear MaryJo,

my husband gave me a 160GB iPod last year for Christmas. I can upload the Outlander as well as the Lord John series and still have plenty of space.

There are several options: the iPod Touch has 32GB and runs about $200, the iPod Classic has 160GB and runs about $250, the iPod Nano 16GB $150 and the Nano 8GB $129. My suggestion would be get the iPod classic. For $50 more than the 32GB one you have so much more space.

For the Outlander series combined at this point you would probably need the 32GB iPod Touch.

        HHope this helps

    • Mary Jo, I don’t know how much iPods cost, but I bought an 8gB Sansa Clip mp3 player on eBay for $50. With an audible.com membership, after you buy the book you can load it straight to the mp3 player without any special software or anything. (you have to do an initial setup on audible.com so that it recognizes your mp3 player and they have great customer service people).
What I like about audible.com is that you own the book forever, so you can erase it and download it again as many times as you like.

My local library has quite an extensive list of titles for audiobooks. These can also be downloaded straight to the mp3 player.

      • Thanks Karen, i just can’t wait to take the big step and start getting the books. I’m going to check with my library too. This opens up a great new “world” for me.
        Mary Jo

  40. I was so happy I finally could purchase The Fiery Cross unabridged from Audible.com. However, when I tried this, I got the following message: “We’re sorry. Due to publishing rights restrictions, we are not authorized to sell this item in the country where you live.” Is there any way I can get around this? My permanent address is in Norway, but live in Spain several months during winter.

    • Dear Anne–

I’m sorry; I really don’t know. I’ll be having dinner with the Recorded Books people later this month, though, so will ask them what they know about it.

      –Diana

    • Hello Anne, that’s the problem of us Europeans which I complained about several days before. We cannot buy it at Audible US and Audible UK has not got it (yet). We’ll have to stick together and hope that Diana could help find a solution for us. By the way, it is not (just) The Fiery Cross, the other one concerned is A Breath of Snow and Ashes; this one has been available in US for months now.

Let’s hope for good luck, Lotte

  41. Hi all,
thought I would share this wonderfully, hilarious, Scottish Kilt song with all my mutual Jamie friends.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=MZ35SOU9HTM

  42. I’m new to this, but have been reading your books for years. After “A Breath of Snow and Ashes”, where does Jamie and Claire go? Is there another book after that, or does it continue with Lord John?

Thank you so much for your books. I have really enjoyed them.

    JoAnna

    • Dear JoAnna–

The next book about Jamie, Claire (and quite a few other people) is AN ECHO IN THE BONE. It came out in 2009, followed by THE EXILE (an Outlander graphic novel) in 2010. THIS year, you get THE SCOTTISH PRISONER–a sort of hybrid novel, something between the Big books of the series and the shorter Lord John-focused ones. THE SCOTTISH PRISONER is set in 1760, and is an adventure/crime/historical novel featuring Jamie Fraser and Lord John Grey in equal measure. Claire is also frequently present, if only in spirit.

  43. does anyone out there know what book Roger Mac gets hung in? have read the series in a hap hazard manner and know that this is the only book that i’ve missed.
    HELP! : )

  44. So the final question – since Scottish Prisoner is really and truly being recorded – WHEN will Audible offer it? It’s not available for preorder, which I just checked into AGAIN.

I just finished my fourth listen/read through the series and I too was listening to the 47 Fiery CDs downloaded to my iPod. Got the audible version – much better playback.
I have my cousin’s daughter hooked and she tries to only listen while in the car so as to not neglect the family. The problem – she stays in the garage or dirves around the block several times until the end of a chapter. Sooo funny!

    • Dear Linda–

Amazon.com is showing the audiobook version available for pre-order. Perhaps Audible.com just hasn’t listed it yet? It _is_ done, though–I saw a copy of the CD version in a local bookshop yesterday, when I stopped by to sign books.

  45. Hi

For people wanting to buy books on Amazon.com when they live outside America, I managed to purchase Lionheart by Sharon Kay Penman by adding an American address to my Amazon account. Even though my credit card details had my Australian address it worked fine. I received the ebook automatically when it was released on 4 October instead of waiting until it was released in Australia in November.
I hope this helps some of you who can’t purchase Diana’s books because of the ridiculous restrictions publishers place on us just because we don’t live where they want to sell their books.

  46. Please tell me why we can’t get Fiery Cross (unabridged) and Breath of Snow and Ashes (unabridged) from Audible.com in Australia? Any idea when these book versions might be available on something like ITunes?

I just love all the books and do lots of long driving travel with my work and love listening to all your books and would love to get these two onto my Ipod!
    Beth:)

    • Dear Betjh–

I’m sorry–I don’t _know_ why. You’d have to ask the UK publisher for those two books; that would be Random House UK–or ask Audible.

      –Diana

      • Hello Diana, do you remember that’s something we “talked” about not too many weeks before. Your answer then was you would meet some “high-ranking” people (publishers?) towards end of Nov. and you would ask them, why there is made such a difference between the American market and the rest of the world. I hoped to find a solution to our problem, when I encountered 2 new resonses on your blog. But alas…

    • Hi Beth, my Australian antipodean, did you do anything suggested by DG? I first contacted Audible UK who referred me to Recorded Books. I sent a joint message to Recorded Books and Random House, forwarding to them the reast of the correspondence. I’m waiting for their answers now. Unfortunately there was none by DG so far.

Did you ever visit the Outlander discussion group at Goodreads? There you would also find a special thread concerning audiobooks and we could discuss our concern there in detail.

      Lotte

      • Dear Lotte–

What do you mean “unfortunately there was none [answer, I suppose you mean?] by DG so far.” I don’t–as I’ve said I-don’t-know-how-many-times–I DON’T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS. I don’t _know_ anything about the issue. What conceivable answer could I have?!?

        –Diana

        • Dear Diana,

Thank you for this reply, sorry for confusing you. And yes, I was waiting for an answer. Your answer, though, made me wonder whether I’d be dreaming or even hallucinating, but now I found the answer:

Further up in this thread, a lady commuting between Norway and Spain complained about not being able to get the unabridged version of Fiery Cross. On Nov. 14th your answer to this was: …I’ll be having dinner with the Recorded Books people later this month, though, so will ask them what they know about it.

          In the meantime I contacted

          - Audible UK: they regretted, they try to get the “rights”, this had not happened so far
          - Recorded Books: they regrettted, no “international rights”. They got both FC and ABOSAA on their shelves, being in London would they ask for my passport when I wanted to buy?
          - Randomhouse: they did not answer my e-mail

I feel a bit sent around in circles. Everybody regrets about these “rights”. By the way, who is granting them, do the companies (have they to) apply for them?

Thank you for your patience with a lover of your books, thank God there are none of these restrictions in their printed form!

          Lotte

          • Dear Lotte–

Oh, there _are_ restrictions on the printed forms–but they’ve been in place so long that everything works and so they don’t inconvenience anyone, usually.

As to the Recorded Books thing: I made an agreement with Recorded Books, giving them the right to produce an UNabridged version of all my books (each book has its own contract). RB can then make any licensing deal they want with any other company, to make the books available. They (obviously) have such deals with Audible.com, SimplyAudioBooks, and probably some others, to allow distribution in the US. Now, apparently they have not yet made deals for all the books to be distributed in non-US countries. I’d suppose they _want_ to (why wouldn’t they?), but have no idea what kind of roadblocks might delay such licensing arrangements. And I’m afraid that’s all I know!

            –Diana

          • Dear Diana,

Thank you again for your reply. Though I’m not any wiser now, I’m still hoping to be able to get these two missing books in audio version. (Still wondering, what is diffferent for these 2, while the rest is /was promptly available for Europeans as well.)

But maybe this is the responsiblity of higher authorities, I’ll hurry up with another letter to Christkind – or Father Christmas, or Santa Claus, or best all three – , who migh intervene!

I wish you a happy Christmas,
            Lotte

PS: I seem to answeer to my own comment, did not find a “reply” beneath your answer, though.

  47. Following the threads.. One quick question.
Did you frequent a website in the past called tartans.com
also know as “The gathering of the Clan”

    Thank you

    Chuck Gibson

  48. A problem for me as cannot get it from NZ. Cant buy on audible – Any know who else may carry it

  49. Hi to everyone looking for the unabridged version of Fiery Cross (outside of the US!)

Just again checked with Audible UK, and there it is: Fiery Cross, 55h 34′, UNABRIDGED, read by Davina Porter, release date 3/11/2o11. It appeared there only recently, but anyway – better late than never.

As this release date is about 10 years after the ABRIDGED version (8h 30′, 2/11/2001) , I am wondering how long we will have to wait for the UNABRIDGED version of A Breath Of Snow And Ashes, till Sept. 2015?

  50. It’s now also available on audible.de!

  51. Just did my weekly check on Audible UK for the unabridged version of The Fiery Cross and found it.

Yippee – Can’t wait to start listening to it. It said it was released last November but it certainly wasn’t available then. I checked on Monday and there was no sign of it. Hopefully we won’t have to wait much longer for book 6.

  52. Yay! Fiery Cross read by Davina Porter available in Australia. Now hanging out for A breath of snow and ashes. Many thanks

  53. does anyone have a clue where i could get an unabridged cd of DRUMS OF AUTUMN read by Davina Porter?
