“Auld Lang Syne” – A Season’s Greeting from Kevin Walsh

This lovely arrangement of the traditional Scottish song (words by Robert Burns) is by Kevin Walsh, the wonderful composer who did the music for OUTLANDER: The Musical. Kevin thought you might enjoy this, and I certainly agree!

If you’d like to keep the song with you for a little longer, it’s available here on iTunes.

Happy Solstice!

  1. Thank you, that was beautiful!

I had not heard all the lyrics before.

  2. That was absolutely beautifully sung Kevin! I loved it and I will probably have to buy it and add to all my other favourite Scottish music.

  3. wonderful. love it.

  4. Lovely! Thanks for the link, Diana.

  5. One of my favorite holiday songs…it brings back memories of childhood. We need to treasure happy moments and remember who we are…Happy Christmas and Merry New Year to you and your family!

  6. Thank you, that was beautiful.

  7. I bought SP the other night for my husband to give me on Christmas. I am trying not to read any of the blogs so I can savour every second with the book.

I am almost down with DTSS, Lord John and I learned much about how Zombies are actually created! I am wondering where you got that info from Dianna, it is a very plausible theory now that I’ve read your description of how Zombie’s come to life. I have a feeling there will be more to that story with Lord John somewhere in the future. Although the story ended as it should have for the novella, it seems there should be more. I love the Lord John series too, as you might be able to tell.

I’ve also been thinking about the on again/off again tidbits about a possible movie or miniseries in the future of the Outlander Series. And you know what, I’m starting to think? No movie, what-so-ever, could ever live up to what my imagination and your words have provided for me.

Right now, if I could get to those stones, with the description of the way to time travel back to Jamie’s time, I would do it, in a heartbeat! Thank you so much for giving me something so enjoyable.

Have a cool yule and a frantic first!

  8. I am loving The Scottish Prisoner. There’s nothing more delightful to see Jame and Lord John together under less than optimal circumstances….then again, that seems to be the only conditions where they find one another, aye?

  9. Lovely song and really enjoyed hearing more from Kevin Walsh. He’s fantastic! Thank you for sharing with us. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

  10. This *is* a lovely version – very earthy. Another version that I love (with Robert Burns’ lyrics) is by Dougie MacLean – lyrics and the music at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acxnmaVTlZA.

So enjoy your books, Diana. Am looking forward to SP – holding off for the week after the hectic holidays – my present to myself! Merry Christmas!

  11. It’s just beautiful!

I’ve never seen the lyrics or heard that version before, off to google “gowens”!

    Happy Christmas!

  12. Thank you Diana. I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and Happy Hogmanay !

  13. Really, really nice.

  14. That was so beautiful with Kevin’s voice, the bodhran and all the lyrics. Thank you Kevin and Diana. I hope there will be a way to buy it and you will let us know?

  15. Another marvelous song from the composer of the Outlander music which is fantastic music if you haven’t yet purchased it.

    Merry Christmas to all!

  17. Naturally, I cannot hear Kevin Walsh’s song/ lyrics on You Tube video but know what, I am SO very glad that it has captioned (words) on the video. THANK YOU for that. That way, I know what ‘s been sung. Have a very Merry Christmas and the happiest New Year to you all.

  18. I love this song and I want that candle!

  19. My 11yr old son and I loved this. We attended a Celtic Christmas concert last Saturday and Auld Lang Syne was in the program. We like your version better! Thanks for putting the words on the video. I love to see and hear the Scottish words.

  20. That’s lovely ! Thanks a lot ! A happy Christmas to you Diana and your family. All the best from PARIS, France

  21. I love this song – it is very well known in Germany:

    Nehmt Abschied, Brüder

It is widely used as a farewell song by the members of the DPSG, the largest German scout organization.

I like the scottish accent so much…

  22. Beautiful! Thank you!

  23. Ah, Herself has blessed us yet again! We raise a wee drop of O Be Joyful to her and each other!

  24. That was a verra lovely piece there by Kevin. I had not really realized the song was Scottish before now and I have to say I enjoyed this version more than any I have heard previously. Diana have a very merry and blessed holiday to ye. Ye started me on a Scottish path and I have been blessed now to go to Scotland and see the motherland and fall inlove with my ancestral kin. Thank ye verra kindly. I dream of Jamie at night. Slainte!

    • I also have realized what my ancestry is due in most part to reading the Outlander series. I am very proud to know that I am over half Scottish and French and what a wonderful heritage that is. It is my dream to visit Scotland. Thank you so much, Diana. The Floyd County, Kentucky Fraziers (my mom’s family), of whom many are James, feel very blessed to know about their true origins via the internet and Ancestry.com, which would not have happened without me discovering your books. Ialso very much enjoyed the song as well. My mother has sung it to us many many times.

  25. Thanks for sharing this wonderful version of the song, Diana. Love the vocals!!! Merry Christmas to you and your family!

  26. Enjoyed every Outlander book and Lord John but not as much as Jamie and Claire. Auld Lang Syne will never be the same now that I have heard this arrangement….it’s great! Thank you for sharing with us…and glad I joined your FB so I received it and now get your news.

  27. Wow, what a voice !!!! Yum.

  28. Stunning version. Really enjoyed it. Happy New Year to you and your family. Am busy at present reading the Outlander series for the second time and loving them all the more. I am presently reading The Fiery Cross now.
