No set schedule as yet, but I always do at least one major talk, plus one or more book-signings.

and

Dragon*Con
Atlanta (This con is immense, and held in four hotels at once. I don’t yet have any sort of schedule, but will be attending with Betsy Mitchell, the DelRey editor for THE EXILE, and we’ll be doing at least one panel together, with slides of artwork from the graphic novel. I’ll certainly also be doing autographing.)

I’ll be switching back and forth between the Decatur Festival and Dragon*Con, so catch me at whichever one is most convenient and/or suited to your personal style!

September 11 – BOOKMARKS Book Festival
Winston-Salem, NC
Speaking and signing – times TBA.
www.bookmarksbookfestival.org for details.

September 21st – LAUNCH PARTY FOR THE EXILE!!
THE EXILE is the new graphic novel, with Jamie’s (and Murtagh’s) side of the OUTLANDER story, script by me, spectacular artwork by Hoang Nguyen.

The launch will be held at the Scottsdale Center for the Arts (http://www.scottsdaleperformingarts.org/ ),
And will feature not only me, books, and food—but also a slideshow with commentary by me and Hoang Nguyen, who did the artwork for THE EXILE, and who will also be available to answer questions and autograph books.

While this event is sponsored by (and books supplied by) The Poisoned Pen Bookstore, they asked me to inform you that instead of reserving a book at the bookstore, you need to buy a ticket from the Center for the Arts (http://tickets.scottsdaleperformingarts.org/tickets/calendar.aspx ) to the event, and the price of your book is included in that. (You can also buy a ‘companion’ ticket for $5, if you want to bring a friend who doesn’t want a book.) [NB: The Center may not yet have their September program up; if not, please check back in a week or two.]

If you won’t be in town, or don’t live here, but would like to order a copy of THE EXILE signed by me, Hoang, or both of us, pleased contact Patrick@poisonedpen.com, or phone the bookstore at 480-947-2974.

Then comes a short(ish) book-tour. This is arranged by Random House, the publisher, and so far, I have only the following information available:

(Yes, I am on the program, even though not listed on the website at the moment.)

October 22-24 – Surrey International Writers Conference
Surrey, BC
This is a paid writers conference (and an excellent one; the only one I do every year), but they do also have an open-to-the-public mass autographing session on Friday evening. This is held at the Guildford Sheraton Hotel, which hosts the conference, and is usually from 5:45 – 7:30 PM.

I may do one or two outside (public) events to promote THE EXILE while I’m attending the conference, but no information on that as yet.

  1. I'm so excited that you will be in the Atlanta area! It's about a 5 hour drive for me, but I have lots of friends in the area, so I'm going to try my best to be at that book festival. I didn't think you would ever come to the south! :)

  2. sigh….you never come to Houston!

  3. Oh … WOW! I was bummed when I realized I breezed through New Bern, NC the week after you and I figured I'd just have to wait my turn until you came somewhere near Atlanta … I am smiling VERY widely. Maybe I could get my friend to drive down for the weekend! Oh … wishing you well given all this travel ;)

  4. Sorry if this is a silly question, but you won't be at the San Diego Comic-Con?

  5. Wow YOU are one busy muchachita!

  6. Dear Megs–

No, I have to stay home and work _sometime_. [g] And San Diego is too far in advance of the EXILE publication for it to be very effective for promotion.

  7. Wooooo freakin' hooooooo!!!! You're coming to LA, you're coming to LA, you're coming to LA!!!!!

    See you at Vroman's, babe.

    Midge

  8. I am soooooo jealous of those attending the August Outlander Tour! The Earl of Cromartie gave us a wonderful tour of Castle Leod during our June tour, and he was so charming and informative. We loved it. You are a very busy woman, and I hope you get a chance to enjoy yourself in Scotland!
    Rita

  9. The Launch Party sounds really cool with Hoang Nguyen being there too, such talent he has!

  11. Pretty hectic Schedule Diana, hope your knee's fully recovered by then.

You guys who have the chance to go and see Diana are so lucky! I live way too far… (Chile, if you're wondering), so I can't attend any event at all. All I'm praying for is that I can get my copy of The Exile.

  12. According to Warwick's, the San Diego event will be at The Gillispie School, which is located at 7380 Girard Ave in La Jolla. I hope to see you there.

  13. Several months ago I got my girlfriend hooked on you Outlander novels; she has managed to read them all in a very short amount of time (lucky for her that she did not have to wait between books like I did). So now we are both eagerly anticipating the release of THE EXILE this September.

After reading through your appearances schedule, I noticed that there is only one Canadian date as yet…any chance more will be added? We are in Ottawa, Ontario and we greatly enjoyed your appearance last fall for the release of ECHO. Would be a pleasure to see you again.

  14. This is very exciting news!

Curious how the book signings go…

We know this is the promotion tour for The Exile(!!!), but is it possible to bring and have another book signed as well? Would love to have Outlander signed, too.

    Safe travels!

  15. Dear Lindy–

Oh, yes, you can certainly–with the exception of the launch party–bring other books you'd like signed. Sometimes a bookstore will want you to put a sticky label on to prove that you brought them in, but most stores are OK with you bringing them. I'm fine with it anytime. [g]

The exception for the launch party is because a) they're expecting 700-800 people, and we'll be there all night if I sign other books (NB: We'll probably sign a ton of books beforehand, so people who don't want a personalization can just take one of those, without having to stand in a long line), and b) since the Poisoned Pen bookstore is paying for this event, they'd really like people to buy the book exclusively from them–as opposed to getting it cheap from Amazon and bringing it to _their_ party, I mean. Which I gotta say, seems reasonable.

So, for the launch party in Scottsdale ONLY–you just buy a ticket to the event, and the price of your book is included in said ticket. No outside books allowed. (You can of course order books from the store–any books [g]–that you want shipped somewhere else, or plan to pick up later.)

  16. Thank you so much for the information, Diana. Denver is looking forward to your visit!

  17. Looking forward to seeing you in Winston-Salem in September!

    Karen

  18. I am so happy that you are coming to the North Carolina area. I will definitely be at the Bookmarks festival!!

  19. Hello, Diana!!
I know you have no control over this, but I wish publishers would get a clue that we DO read here on the West Coast too, lol, in the Northwest :D Seems like they have ALL the fun back East most of the time!! I be a little jealous ;) I am SO looking forward to Graphic Novel!!!! Prelims are amazing!!

    Love and Hugs,
    Bonnie

  20. Dear Amber–

Actually, I will be doing several Canadian appearances toward the end of October. I haven't yet got details, though–will add them when I do!
